Our Story

The newly chartered Knox County Young Democrats are here to make things happen. We believe in the power of young people to shape the future of our community. Through direct action, organizing, and showing up for each other, we're building a movement rooted in justice and real opportunity for all of Knox County.

This is where we organize, advocate, and make our voices heard on the issues that matter most to young Tennesseans.

Our Purpose

KYD exists to amplify the voices of young people (ages 18–35) in Knox County, ensuring they have a seat at the table in shaping local, state, and national politics. We aim to build a sustainable pipeline of Democratic leaders, expand civic engagement, and create meaningful community impact through organizing, advocacy, and education.

Solomon

Solomon

President

Solomon Trapp’s leadership is grounded in a clear belief: equality is the goal, but equity is what makes it possible. Born in Oak Ridge and raised in Cookeville, he grew up in rural Tennessee as a Black queer person and learned early what it means to be overlooked—an experience that sharpened his commitment to building structures where young people and marginalized communities are consistently included as decision-makers, not afterthoughts.

Solomon co-founded Knox Young Democrats because if young leaders wanted a seat at the table, they would have to build the table themselves. As President, he is focused on turning youth energy into durable infrastructure—not just election-season participation. He believes Democrats cannot afford to mobilize only during crises and disappear during periods of stability; lasting power is built in the “off-season,” through relationships, trust, research, and consistent community presence.

Professionally, Solomon is a Senior Account Executive at an award-winning advertising agency and holds a Master of Science in Communication, applying message discipline to cut through polarization and reach people where they are. He also serves as Founder and Chair of the Tennessee Democratic Party’s Black Caucus, sits on the UTK Alumni Advisory Board, and holds various other leadership and volunteer positions dedicated to empowering the voices of the next generation of emerging leaders.

Driven by a vision for a more just Tennessee, she has dedicated her life to the belief that real change starts from the ground up.

As Vice President of KYD, Julia is on a mission to turn young voices into decisive action. His journey in local politics is defined by a commitment to the next generation of leadership, currently serving as the Treasurer for the Knox County Young Democrats.

He manages administrative operations as the Secretary for College Democrats at UTK, drives the visual identity and messaging for the Progressive Student Alliance (PSA) as their Design Chair, and serves as the Advocacy Chair for VolOUT, where he works to ensure a more inclusive and equitable campus environment.
