Board of Education: Book Ban Call to Action - Work Session

The battle for our public school shelves didn't end with getting Roots back on the grid. It exposed just how much of the book review process is happening completely in the dark. A closed-door committee shouldn't be making decisions that dictate what access 60,000+ local students have to information and diverse stories.That is exactly why the Knox Young Dems are standing shoulder-to-shoulder with the League of Women Voters and their 14 community partners. We need a heavy presence of young progressives to echo this call for absolute transparency, accountability, and a formal, inclusive process at the Board of Education. Let's back this initiative, pack the upcoming board meetings, and make sure our local leaders hear us loud and clear!

ACLU TN EVENT: The 2026 legislative session has come to a close – but the fight for our rights is far from over. Join us for a virtual Legislative Advocacy Round-Up on Tuesday, May 12 where we will reflect on the highs and lows of this year’s session, celebrate the progress we made together, and share how our legislative advocacy team worked with coalition partners and volunteers across the state to push back against harmful legislation threatening civil liberties in Tennessee. Whether you helped us mobilize thousands of voters across the state, joined committee meetings in Nashville, or reached out to your elected representatives directly, your voice and commitment are what powered this work. Join Knox Young Democrats in supporting one of our very own Young Dems, Cadence Collins, candidate for School Board, as we walk with her in Knoxville’s Juneteenth Parade!As we celebrate the emancipation of enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, we also recognize that the work of achieving true freedom and equality continues. From book bans and attacks on public education to redistricting and barriers to representation, showing up in solidarity remains essential.Parade registration and lineup begin at 8:30 AM at Chilhowee Park, with step-off at 10:00 AM.
